HUNKING THEME OF THE MONTH: We are embracing the theme of BRAVERY throughout the month of April. Bravery is the quality or state of having or showing mental or moral strength to face danger, fear, or difficulty. I want to have all students this month look at bravery in regard to another quality or theme and that is ACCEPTANCE. Being kind and respectful is the number one rule at Hunking school…and while that is challenging at times…we are asking students to be brave and show acceptance for all. Acceptance is the ability to take people and things as they are, and not just to take things as they are, but be grateful for them. It is my hope that students will step up and show bravery around showing all peers their acceptance for being themselves, no matter who they are, what they look like, what they believe, or how they act. Staff will be on the lookout this month for those students who show the bravery to show the mental and moral strength to accept people for who they are regardless of the fear or difficulty.

EDUCATIONAL HAPPENINGS:

ST March Mathness!  We are down to the championship round!  It’s Mrs. Augusta vs Mrs. Thibault.  Good luck to both homerooms!

Kindergarten: We have begun our life cycle unit in science. We will spend the next few weeks exploring life cycles of various living things. We will culminate our unit by watching the butterfly life cycle happen right in our own classrooms! Thanks to PTO, our baby caterpillars will arrive after April vacation.

7th Grade Social Studies: Students started the week analyzing modern-day companies that reference Greek mythology in either their name, logo, or slogan. For example, Nike was the goddess of victory. Students were then paired up and created their own fictional company with a unique name, logo, and slogan that references Ancient Greece.

7th Grade: The 7th-grade homeroom teachers decided to make Monday dress like a student day in honor of April Fools. Which teacher do you think looks most like a 7th grader?

Grade 8:

Civics: Students are working hard on their action civics project and are in need of your help. Below are two links for you to look at and take part in if you can. Both of these links are not for just 8th grade and are open to anyone who can help.

NEWS FROM OUR NURSES:  There continues to be an uptick in conjunctivitis at the school in the past couple of weeks. Bacterial conjunctivitis is highly contagious, so please remind your child to wash their hands well and often with warm water and soap. They also should not share eye drops, tissues, eye makeup, washcloths, towels, or pillowcases. If they are diagnosed with conjunctivitis  (pink eye), he/she must be treated for 24 hours before returning to school. Please call the health office at 978-420-1913 if your child will be absent.

Mandatory Postural/Scoliosis screenings will be wrapping up during the week of April 8th. The Purpose of the screening is to detect possible curvature of the spine in children. If the condition is detected early and appropriately treated, progressive spinal deformity may be prevented.

If your child was given a vision or hearing referral, please make sure it is sent back to the health office after seeing an eye or hearing specialist.

ATHLETIC NEWS:

We will have practice Monday 4/8/24 3-5pm for boys. We will also hold morning practice for the players that can make it on Tuesday 4/9/24 morning at 7:30am so we can get ready for playoffs.

Semi Finals will be on Tuesday 4/9/24 at Haverhill High School gymnasium with start time at 5pm (both gyms at the high school will be used for semi finals-girls first).

If we make it to the Finals they will be held on Thursday 4/10/24 at Haverhill High School gymnasium with start time at 5pm. Girls first. Cost for parents is $3 dollars and students are free.

EARLY SPRING TRACK SIGN UP

My fellow coaches and I are excited for our upcoming 2024 track season! I am hoping to get a good idea as to how many kiddos are interested in joining us this year, so I wanted to create this form to make sign-ups easier. SPRING TRACK SIGN UP

(*This sign up link has also been added to our school website*)

Prior to the beginning of the season I will follow up with students/parents that have filled this form out to confirm if they are still interested. We will still have a “sign up” available in-person as we have in the past; however this form can expedite that process.

Last, but certainly not least, if your athlete took part in a school sport during this year (2023-2024) you do not need to fill out another health participation packet.Only the first and last page is needed. If not, the entire packet needs to be filled, current physical submitted, signed and returned before participation is permitted.

Our main office retains hard copies for students to take home, but I have also included the link below if you’d prefer to print out and return ahead of time.

HPS (Middle School) Sport Permission Packet

When our season officially commences I will provide practice dates, schedules, meet information and all things track via our Remind class link (see below).

Track Family Remind Link

As always thank you for your continued support and please reach out should you have any questions!
