WINTER BREAK: December 25th-January 1st

We want to wish our entire Hunking Community a Safe & Happy Holiday season! We hope that you all have the chance to be with your loved ones. We will see you all in the New Year!

 

 

HUNKING THEME OF THE MONTH: We have embraced the theme of Generosity throughout the month of December. Generosity is the quality of being kind and generous. Generosity is the willingness to give help & kindness, especially more than is usual or expected. Please stay tuned in early January to see who are winners will be!

 

COMMUNITY HAPPENINGS: 

 

8th Grade Fundraiser (Next week)

  • G’s Restaurant, Don’t make plans the day after Christmas! Keep the festivities going and dine at G’s or take out on December 26th from 4-9pm. Amazing raffle baskets with changes to win…priceless

 

WASHINGTON, DC GRADE 8:

  • NOTE!!! All registered students must have a signed District Permission Slip AND Student Participation Contract (please make sure you fill out the medical form on the 2nd page of the permission slip as well). It is imperative that this is signed and returned when students return from vacation. Hard copies have been provided to homerooms. Return signed forms to the homeroom teacher. Your registered student has been emailed a reminder.
  • Update: 101 students are registered! 5 staff chaperones and 6 parent/guardian chaperones have been assigned and notified (please contact Meg Arivella for Cori paperwork and fingerprinting instructions).  Once you have registered, your student will be added. However, just registering with no payment does not hold your spot. Please make the $125 non refundable payment today.   Check the DC google classroom for updates! 
  • HPS middle schools got chosen to participate in the wreath laying ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery!

Dates/Info to remember:

  • January 24th- 6pm at Hunking /Held to answer questions and allow for any last minute signups. Nurse leader will be here to discuss medication.
  • Feb. 9th-2nd payment $225 (firm deadline to sign up)

EDUCATIONAL HAPPENINGS: 

 

Kindergarten: Students have been working hard during Eureka Math². We have been learning all about flat and solid shapes as well as exploring attributes with lots of hands-on activities. When we return from break, we will begin our science unit about plant needs. We will observe what happens when plants get different amounts of water and record our findings! 

 

5th Grade: Happy Holidays from Grade 5!!

 

7th Grade: The 7th grade team wants to wish everyone a Happy Holidays! We hope everyone has a fantastic break. We will see you all on January 2nd. 

 

7th Grade Social Studies Students studied the winter holiday traditions from 6 other cultures. They then compared and contrasted these traditions to their own holiday traditions 

 

 

FROM ML team: Christmas- December 25thA major celebration in the Christian calendar, Christmas traditionally marks the birth of Jesus. However, plenty of people around the world celebrate Christmas for non-religious reasons too.

Kwanzaa-  December 26th-January 1st-First celebrated in California in the 1960s, Kwanzaa is an annual celebration of African-American history and culture, culminating in a communal feast. Festivities typically include dancing, performance and candle-lighting.

ATHLETIC NEWS: 

 

Basketball: Both basketball teams will be back in action on Thursday, January 4th as they will travel to Nettle. 

 

CLUB NEWS: 

 

Model UN: The Model UN wrapped up their season last Thursday and Friday with a strong showing at Haverhill High School. Many students walked away with awards and represented Bobcat Nation with pride. Congratulations and can’t wait to see how we do next year.

CHORUS: Happy holidays everyone! Chorus is caroling today and we are all so excited! We will resume rehearsals on Friday January 5th. We are still encouraging new members to join so see Ms. Avalos if you are interested!

 

Guitar Ensemble:  Guitar Ensemble will resume on Thursday, January 18th at 8am. Enjoy your vacation and all the best for the new year!  

 

Drama Club:  An all-cast rehearsal will resume on January 9th from 2:45 to 4:45 in the music room.

YEARBOOK: The Hunking Yearbook Team needs your help! Do you have photos you would like to contribute to the yearbook? Please see attached flyer for instructions

 

ODDS & ENDS: 

 

-All students have been issued school IDs. It is required that they bring and wear their ID badges each day. These badges are also used for breakfast and lunches as well as to “swipe” on & off the bus. 

 

-Please make sure that your student(s) are coming to school daily with a fully charged chromebook. 

 

HPS has chosen School Device Coverage (SDC) to insure the Chromebooks that students have been issued. The cost of coverage for the year is $20 and includes accidental damage, loss, fire, and theft. As of right now, families have the option to sign up during the month of September (we will let you know if it extends). After sign up closes, only new students will be given a special code to sign up at registration. Our website explains SDC and has instructions on how to signing up online:
