Bobcat Bulletin 10/27/23

K-4 Halloween Parade: TUESDAY, **HALLOWEEN** October 31 is the day!

Students come to school in their costumes  (no full masks or weapons) *this makes it much easier for teachers when kiddos return to class to put costumes away*

K-4 only will parade. These classrooms will line-up outside at 9 am and the parade will commence once the rest of school is in place to spectate!

THIS IS A SCHOOL ONLY EVENT. WE APOLOGIZE, BUT NO PARENTS OR FAMILY MEMBERS ARE ABLE TO ATTEND.

2ND ANNUAL THANKSGIVING FEAST: Mark your calendars, we will be hosting our 2nd Annual Thanksgiving Feast on Thursday, November 16th from 4:30-7:00pm. If you are interested in a free Thanksgiving like meal, please register to come and join us. While the event will run from 4:30-7:00pm, we encourage families to stagger their arrival times to cut down on the food lines. We will be bringing back the Pie a staff member in the face raffle, along with other raffle basket prizes. We will have an art activity for students to participate in, as well as a “gallery walk” of the lower school for parents to see student work/projects displayed.

Once again, you can register below by utilizing the attached link. On the link you can also purchase raffle tickets and submit a donation for the meal if you choose. We hope to see all families on November 16th!

EDUCATIONAL HAPPENINGS:

Kindergarten: It was great seeing so many families at conferences this week! Reminder that Tuesday is our costume parade. Please refer to Mr. Betty’s information above. Our November “Disguise a Turkey” project went home this week. Reach out to your child’s teacher with any questions.

Grade 7: The 7th grade spent the half-day working on team building activities. Some of the activities included team building games, group problem solving challenges, as well as spooky story round robin writing.

Grade 8 Math update!  Expect to see your student coming home with Math Exit Tickets and Recap pages once a lesson is complete in school.  These are used as formative assessments by us, review and study tools for them. These are to be completed at home then returned the next day.

Plenty of prizes were had Wednesday at our GR8 Incentive Raffle!  Kindness and respect are noticed and rewarded here!

NEWS FROM OUR NURSES:  We are continuing screenings for vision next week with grade 5. Please make sure your child is bringing their glasses to school.

Trick or Treating is this Saturday  Here are some safety tips to keep the little princesses and monsters safe this Halloween:

If no sidewalk is available, walk at the far edge of the roadway facing traffic. Only go to homes with a porch light on and, ideally, a well-lit pathway.

-Consider adding reflective tape or striping to costumes and trick-or-treat bags for greater visibility.

-Though tampering is rare, it can happen. Also, many cannabis edibles look like regular candy could get accidentally mixed up with Halloween treats. Closely examine all treats and throw away any spoiled, unwrapped or suspicious items. Give your child a good meal before trick-or-treating to discourage sampling.

-If your older children are trick-or-treating alone, plan and review the route that is acceptable to you. Agree on a specific time when they should return home and get flashlights with batteries for everyone.

Have a great and safe Halloween!

CHORUS: Chorus is starting soon! We will have two choral groups, a general, non-auditioned chorus and an advanced, auditioned group. The general chorus is for students who love to sing, want to do some real chorus music, and perform in a concert later this year. The Advanced group is all that is listed above, but we will do more challenging material and (hopefully) some extra performances!

We will start rehearsal mid-November. Chorus will meet Tuesday mornings, and Advanced Chorus will meet Friday mornings.

Audition sign-ups and permission slips will be available outside of Ms. Avalos’ classroom #128, and all auditions are before school. Please see Ms. Avalos or email kathleen.avalos@haverhill-ps.org with any questions!

See attached flyer for Advance Chorus.

Drama Club:  There will be a script read through on November 2, 2023 from 2:45 to 4:45. All cast members will be required to attend.  There will also be a second round of auditions coming soon, please stay tuned for more information.

Cast members will need the following items for rehearsals: Movement clothes, sneakers, water, a notebook and snacks.

If anyone would like to donate snacks to the drama club for rehearsals, it would be greatly appreciated. Please contact Mr. K or Mrs. Fairbrother, they can also be dropped off at the main office.

Guitar Ensemble:  Please let me know if you did not get an invite link to the google classroom.  Our winter concert is scheduled for December 12th. See you Thursday!

ODDS & ENDS:
