HUNKING THEME OF THE MONTH: For the month of October we will be embracing the theme of Respect! This month staff will be on the lookout for students who consistently show respect for themselves, others, and our school.

I’d also like to state that while we are celebrating these themes monthly, that does not mean that when the month is over that we should stop paying attention to the values. September was the theme of kindness, but it is our expectation here at Hunking that our whole school community practice kindness each and every day. Please treat others the way that you would like to be treated whether you are in class, at lunch, at recess, or even outside of school. The same goes for respect and every other theme that we will celebrate this school year. I appreciate everyone coming together to promote doing the right thing. Thank you!

ML News

Welcome from the ML team at Hunking.

My name is Michelle Saab, I am a ML teacher at Hunking  working with  grades 5, 6 and 7.  I am married with 4 children, ranging from 4th grade to High schoolers and have a little dog named Fluffy.  I enjoy reading, cooking,  running, and spending time with my family. I love working with Multilingual Learners and watching them make gains throughout the year both in English proficiency and academically in content areas.

My name is Josi Clark, I am a ML teacher at Hunking and this year I am working with grades 1, 3 and 4. I am originally from Brazil and I have been living in the US for 20 years. Teaching and learning languages is definitely my passion. I also enjoy learning about other cultures. I love spending time with my family and my dear dog Bubba.

Hi My name is Maria Synodinos, I am a ML teacher at Hunking school and I am working with grades 6th and 8th.  I am originally from Athens Greece and I have studied in the U.S.A. and Paris, France . I have traveled to numerous countries in Europe and South America. I love teaching and Learning different languages.

My name is Courtney Dickson, and I am an ML teacher at Hunking for Kindergarten- 2nd grade. I grew up on Martha’s Vineyard and have been lucky enough to live in multiple states before coming to teach in Haverhill. Before becoming an ML teacher, I was a kindergarten teacher. I love working with the ML population and enjoy teaching them English as they continue developing their first language.

What we do: You might be wondering what the ESL/ ML  Program is, and why your child was invited to be a part of it. When you entered the district, you filled out a Home Language Survey as required by the state. There are two important questions in this survey. If you answered ‘yes’ to either of the questions:  Does your child speak another language other than English? Does anyone in the child’s home speak a language other than English? Then we are required to give your child the language screener test to see if your child qualifies for ESL/ML support services. If your child does qualify, you were sent a letter home in order to notify you.

National Hispanic Heritage Month is annually celebrated from September 15 to October 15 in the United States for recognizing the contributions and influence of Hispanic Americans to the history, culture, and achievements for the United States.

HAPPY HISPANIC HERITAGE MONTH !

ATHLETIC NEWS:

Soccer: On Wednesday against Nettle, Boys suffered only their second loss of the season in a hard-fought, physical match. Girls won another thriller, after going down 2-0 in the first half, they dug deep and came back to win 3-2.

On Thursday at JG Whittier, Boys played a scoreless draw in which both teams had their opportunities but defense was the story of the game. Girls continued their winning run with a 1-0 victory. Kendall DiStefano was the hero, scoring the game’s only goal then closing out the 2nd half as keeper.
