Grade 8:  In Civics, students have been preparing for an upcoming DBQ focused on documents that have influenced our U.S. Constitution.

In ELA, students have started their first studysync unit, stories of mystery and horror. Take a look at students’ creative bio POEms on Edgar Allan Poe.

In Science, the Astronomy unit has wrapped up and students are moving on to learning about plate tectonics and continental drift.

In Math, students are finishing a unit on Scientific Notation; while, in the morning, many are applying their knowledge of angles to daily deck hockey games! Thank you Mr. Schaefer!

NEWS FROM OUR NURSES:  There is an uptick in Covid cases in Massachusetts. If your child tests positive, please contact the school. Children who test positive will need to remain isolated for five days and may return on day 6. If they are still testing positive on day 6, they will need to wear a mask for an additional 5 days or until testing negative. US households can order four free tests from Covidtests.gov. The link to order is Covidtests.gov .

If your child has any medications that are needed at school such as Epipens and inhalers, please drop off the medication and forms in the health office. The Health Office needs an order from the student’s provider and parental consent for medication administration and the medication should be in the original bottle/box with a pharmacy label. If you have not yet completed the Health forms, please complete and send back to school as soon as possible. If you have any questions or concerns, please call the Health Office (978-420-1913).

ATHLETIC NEWS:

Soccer: On Tuesday against Consentino, Girls showed a lot of heart, scoring the first goal but ultimately losing 3-1. Boys came out strong, with Gabe Rosario scoring two goals, on their way to a 3-2 win.

On Thursday against J.G. Whittier, Boys extended their win streak to three in a row, with an impressive second half performance, with the final score of 3-1. Girls played well on both sides of the field; the defense, along with goalies Kendall DiStefano and Celinna Santiago, recorded their first shutout and the offense took care of business, with the final score of 3-0.

Hunking Cross Country: First and foremost all of our kiddos this year deserve so much credit; they have done an amazing job thus far. Your coaches are so excited for our meets in the coming weeks to show the hard work your athletes have put in!

First up will be our district-wide (non-scoring) meet for grades 6-8 on October 10, 2023. (NO PRACTICE FOR Grades 4&5 at Hunking that day) Transportation is provided from Hunking to Winnekenni. We try to commence meets as close to 3:30pm as possible and they traditionally conclude by 5:30pm.

We encourage families to come and cheer our Bobcats on and pick up from Winnekeni post-race, if possible. If your schedules do not allow, we do have a bus that will bring kiddos back to Hunking after the conclusion of the meet.

Hunking XC shirts will be handed out for the meets. We do require proper athletic attire (no denim shorts etc) and appropriate footwear for the meets (i.e. no crocs, yeezy slides etc) If your student is not dressed appropriately for meets they will not be allowed to participate. As always, we thank you for your ongoing support and we look forward to seeing you at our meets!

Your Kiddos Biggest Fans,

Coaches Law, Gibbs & Molina
