Hunking’s 2nd Annual “Fun Run”: 

Boosterthon Fun Run:  We are over halfway to our goal of $25,000 to support field trips and school events! When you upload a photo of your student to MyBooster.com, it creates a personalized video starring them that you can easily share with friends and family. It’s a fun way to spread the word and boost support!

Great Wolf Lodge is helping make our fundraiser even more exciting! Just for receiving their first donation, students can earn their very own Wolf Ears, and if we reach our $25,000 goal, everyone registered will earn a digital day pass to the Great Wolf Lodge waterpark AND we will Ice Bucket Principal Betty!

PTO NEWS: 

Next Meeting Oct Tuesday 6th at 4:00pm

We will debrief the Booster Thon and Block Party.  Then set goals for the 26-2027 school year.  We’d love to hear from you.  Free babysitting will be available.

NEWS FROM GUIDANCE

Parents/Guardians of 8th Graders: I have met with all 8th grade classes to discuss high school options and 8th graders have joined my Google Classroom where I will be posting all high school information, such as open house dates and relevant updates. It is important for students to check this Google Classroom regularly throughout the school year.  

Haverhill High’s Career Technical Education (CTE) Program and Classical Academy are currently accepting applications!

Whittier Tech and Essex Tech will begin accepting applications online on November 1st. 

If your child is planning on applying to private high schools, please email me directly at jvlahos@haverhill-ps.org as soon as possible to ensure the application deadlines are adhered to. For any high schools/programs you and your child are considering, be sure to look at the websites for specific admissions requirements and timelines. EDUCATIONAL HAPPENINGS: 

5th/6th Grade: The 5th and 6th grade teams are heading to Topsfield Fair on October 9th for a field trip.  Permission slips have gone out and are due with money by Friday October 2 to your child’s homeroom teacher.  If your child needs another permission slip, have them ask their homeroom teacher as they have extras.  We are fully staffed with chaperones from the school at this time as the children will be supervised.  No rides are allowed- Money can be brought the day of the trip to purchase food, souvenirs, and to play games.  If your child needs a bag lunch from the school- please have them let their homeroom teacher know.  Any questions please feel free to reach out to Mrs. Fielding (fifth and sixth grade interventionist) at jfielding@haverhill-ps.org

8th Grade: On Sept. 30th we will award individual points that will be added to their homeroom to each student wearing their class color during the FunRun.  

Then on Friday, Oct 2nd we will have an Outsiders Day in honor of the grade level text we are reading “The Outsiders.”  Students who dress like a Greaser or Social will be awarded points and we will watch the movie as a grade!

NEWS FROM OUR NURSES:  We have started vision and hearing screening with our lower school students this week. We are currently screening our new kindergarten class.  Please ensure your child wears their glasses to school (if they need them). We will be sending home referrals for any child who has trouble seeing or hearing. Please don't hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or concerns.

If your child requires any medications at school, such as EpiPens or inhalers, please drop off the medication and necessary forms in the health office. The Health Office requires an order from the student’s provider and parental consent for medication administration. The medication must be in its original bottle/box with a pharmacy label. Please contact the Health Office if you did not receive an allergy/asthma packet. 

If your child will be participating in any sports this year, they will need a current physical in order to play. You will also need to register on Final Form. The link is below. Our fax number is 978-374-5790 if you would like the doctor to fax it to our office.

Cross Country: Friendly reminder

Monday 9/28 We will have our first district-wide meet at Winnekinni Park in Haverhill with grades 5-8. The meet will start as close to 3:30pm as we can get it. Please keep in mind about traffic; start times may be closer to 3:45pm as we share transportation with the other Haverhill schools. 

Transportation will be provided to and from the meet for our runners. To ensure we have the necessary seating and arrangements in place, we need an exact headcount for transportation. Email Mr. Molina for questions regarding transportation. 

All athletes must have the following completed before participating in upcoming practices and meets:

CLUB NEWS

Drama Club: Thank you to everyone who participated in our popcorn fundraiser. The money raised will help the drama club this year with our performance of 9 to 5 Jr., in May 2027. Auditions for 9 to 5 Jr. will take place October 5th and 6th from 2:45 till about 5:00. This is open to all students in grades 5 through 8. Please be prepared to sing a song and read from the script. Students that participate in sports will still be able to audition, they must see Mr. K or Mrs. Fairbrother to let them know.  A parent survey will be sent out in the next few weeks to find volunteers. 

Mentor/Mentee: Applications for 7th and 8th grade students who wish to apply for a mentor position will be posted in their Google health classes starting next week. Anyone in grade 7 or 8 is allowed to apply. The deadline for turning in the application will be Wed., Oct 7.

Tri-M: Attention all Chorus, Band, and Guitar ensemble students in 6th-8th grade! If you are interested in joining the Tri-M Music Honor Society, we will have an informational meeting on Wednesday October 16th after school from 2:45-3:30pm in the Music Room. Existing members of Tri-M will be presenting information and should be present as well. Please reach out to Ms. Avalos if you cannot attend this meeting or if you have any questions.

Student Council: Calling all students grades 4-8 who are interested in joining the student council!

Eligible candidates will be notified about the next steps by Monday October 5th.  

Technology Resources: 

HPS offers the opportunity to protect school-issued devices for the school year by paying a Device Waiver Fee. As outlined in the HPS Student Technology Device Policy, this $20 fee will help to cover the costs of potential damage, repair, or loss for the school year for the assigned device. Please note: issues of theft should still be reported to the police. The $20 covers 1 student for 1 school year. So families with more than one student will have to sign each student up separately. Some of the replacement costs are as follows:

LCD Screen - $80

Top/Bottom Cover - $30-$35

Keyboard $70

Trackpad $15

Device Replacement Costs (when Chromebook is unrepairable) $199

-Please make sure that you are sending your student(s) with a water bottle. We have a limited supply of cups, and we do not have access to water fountains, only water bottle filling stations.
