School & Neighborhood Safety

Good Morning Hunking Families, 

I wanted to reach out and thank everyone for an amazing first day of the 2026-2027 school year! It was great having all of the students back in the building!!

I also wanted to quickly touch base with you all to reiterate a message I shared at our open house and to ask for your continued support. 

Safety is and will always be our number one priority here at Hunking. 

I will be conducting grade-level assemblies with all students over the next two days to address general expectations at Hunking and to remind them that safety is our number one priority and that students need to take all necessary precautions in and around the school to ensure they remain safe. 

Families may have heard that there was an incident/accident at the entrance of Hunking yesterday afternoon, well after dismissal (approximately 3:30pm), where a child was hurt when falling off a motorized scooter. I would like to confirm with everyone that I was in touch with the emergency personnel on the scene, and it was not a Hunking student, and I am also led to believe that this child is/will be okay. 

Nevertheless, I wanted to reach out to ask for your partnership in reinforcing with our Hunking students/children, how important it is to take all necessary safety precautions at all times. I will address this with them at school, but I hope you will have conversations with your students to reinforce safety when traveling through our neighborhoods in and around Hunking, as well as appropriate bike/scooter safety. 

Please be reminded that all electric bikes & scooters are prohibited from use on school grounds at any time. If a student is in possession of one of these vehicles, it will be confiscated and returned only to a parent or guardian. This also applies to after-school hours. 

Finally, I would reiterate a message that was also shared during open house, that it is imperative that all parents/family members follow Hunking traffic patterns at both drop-off and dismissal times to ensure the safety of all students. Please make sure to drive slowly in and around our school and in the neighborhoods during these times, and be mindful of our crosswalks. 

If we can spread a consistent message and partner together, we can help ensure the safety of all students here at Hunking!
