Haverhill, MA — Haverhill Public Schools has been recognized in the 2026 Education Scorecard as one of only 108 “Districts on the Rise” nationwide for strong growth in math achievement. Haverhill is also one of just four districts in Massachusetts to receive this recognition.
The Education Scorecard is a collaborative report produced by the Harvard University Center for Education Policy Research, the Stanford University Educational Opportunity Project, and faculty at Dartmouth College. The report analyzes national student achievement trends using data from the Stanford Education Data Archive (SEDA), tracking outcomes for approximately 35 million students in grades 3–8 from 2022–2025.
National Findings: Math Recovery Across the Country
The report highlights a nationwide “U-shaped recovery” in math achievement, showing that:
- High- and low-income districts experienced the strongest gains since 2022
- Middle-income districts showed slower improvement
- Math achievement has rebounded more quickly than other subject areas
- Student absenteeism continues to impact learning outcomes nationwide
108 “Districts on the Rise”

Haverhill Public Schools is among this select group, recognized for accelerating math achievement and outperforming comparable districts statewide and nationally.
Haverhill’s Achievement and Commitment
“This recognition reflects the hard work and dedication of our students, educators, and administrators,” said Dr. Margaret Marotta, Superintendent of Schools. “We are proud of the progress being made in math across our schools and remain committed to ensuring all students have access to high-quality instruction and strong academic opportunities.”
