Bobcat Bulletin

C.D. Hunking School | December 12, 2021

A big shout out to our school nurses! They have been working tirelessly to provide the typical health services while addressing the needs that come along with COVID. Their dedication towards our students and staff doesn’t go unnoticed. We are grateful for their hard work and professionalism during this trying time.

Thank you to Mrs. Noonan and Sacred Heart who donated many new hats and mittens for our students. We will continue to accept new hats, mittens, and gloves for our students. You may send donations to the main office. There is a hat and mitten tree in the lobby that students can access daily and grab what they need.

We are fortunate to have a group of staff who collaborate frequently with the focus of creating a climate of positivity within our school community. This group includes Ms. Shelburne (grade 7/8 teacher), Ms. Curry (health teacher), Ms. Mansour (grade 8 science teacher), Ms. Corcoran (math coach), Ms. Pouliot (adjustment counselor), Mr. Kellerman (grade 7 SS teacher), Ms. Paquette (grade 6 SS teacher), Ms. Wuestkamp (grade 4 special education teacher), Mr. Schaefer (grade 8 math teacher), and Ms. Rwabuhinga (Compass Program ESP). Part of their work includes crafting a mission statement for our school. Caleb Dustin Hunking School, with the support of the home, community, and guidance from school staff, strives to foster a safe, nurturing, and inclusive learning environment where students can develop the skills to become critical thinkers and lifelong learners.

Our 8th grade students will be visiting Haverhill High School this week. As a Hillie graduate myself I hope our Bobcats enjoy the tour and learning about all the high school has to offer.

Please send your student to school with a mask daily. Students should also have an additional mask if possible because masks often break or become soiled during the school day. Thank you!

The lost and found is overflowing yet again. Please have your student check for any missing items. It is located in the cafeteria for easy access.

HUNKING HAPPENINGS

Gay-Straight Alliance News – Lori Curry, Brendan Molly, Advisors:
The Gay-Straight Alliance is open to 7th and 8th graders with the assistance of Patrick Sainato, a former Hunking grad and current HHS senior. The club is open to all regardless of sexuality or gender identity. We hope to create a meaningful, safe space for LGBT+ students and their supportive friends and allies to form a community, forge friendships, and discuss issues around their identities. Meetings will be held monthly; the first meeting will be held Tuesday, December 14th from 2:45 to 4:00.

Model UN News – Eileen Paquette, Advisor:
Students will be attending the annual Hillie Model UN at the High School on December 14th and 15th. Make sure you return your permission slip.

Student Council News – Mrs. Pouliot, Mrs. Godfrey, Ms. Riley, Advisors:
We will be collecting unwrapped new gifts for children from birth to age 18 for the Salvation Army through December 15th. Thank you for your donations!

Drama Club News – Mr. Kowalewksi, Mrs. Fairbrother, Advisors:
Drama Club will be taking a pause and will not be meeting until after winter break. Due to the 105 membership and spacing concerns, we take making sure students are safe and healthy very seriously. After winter break our goal is to start meetings back up the week of January 10th, 2022.

PTO NEWS

CHROMEBOOKS

Please make sure your student comes to school every day with a charged Chromebook.

You have the opportunity to protect the Chromebook issued to your student by paying a Device Waiver Fee. This $20 fee will cover a single incident of damage or repair for the school year. It will not cover lost equipment. If the annual optional Damage Waiver Fee is not purchased, the typical cost of repairing components is as follows, and an invoice would be sent to the family:

  • Charger – $39
  • LCD Screen – $80
  • Top Cover (keyboard, trackpad, etc.) – $139
  • Device Replacement (when damage to the device is unrepairable) – $199

If you would like to submit your $20 (per student), please send it to Shelley MacRae in the main office. Make checks payable to: Haverhill Public Schools
